WHAT IS A TWO-WAY DUAL IMMERSION?
A Two-Way Dual Language Immersion (TWDL) program promotes bilingualism, biliteracy, an enhanced understanding of linguistic and cultural diversity, and high academic achievement through instruction in two languages. In these programs, students from different language backgrounds, such as native English speakers and native speakers of the partner language, learn together in the same classroom. Instruction is divided between the two languages to help all students develop literacy and academic skills in both.
In middle school, a TWDL program continues to build on the language skills gained in elementary school, allowing students to further strengthen their fluency, literacy, and academic understanding in both languages. The model of delivery for sixth through eighth grade will consist of 40% instruction in the target language and 60% in English.
¿QUÉ ES EL PROGRAMA DE DOBLE INMERSIÓN?
Los programas de doble inmersión lingüística (TWDL) fomentan el bilingüismo, la alfabetización bilingüe, una mejor comprensión de la diversidad lingüística y cultural y un alto rendimiento académico mediante la enseñanza en dos lenguas. En estos programas, los estudiantes de diferentes orígenes lingüísticos, como los hablantes nativos de inglés y los hablantes nativos de la lengua asociada, aprenden juntos en la misma aula. La enseñanza se divide entre las dos lenguas para ayudar a todos los alumnos a desarrollar la alfabetización y las habilidades académicas en ambas.
En la escuela secundaria, el programa TWDL continúa desarrollando las destrezas lingüísticas adquiridas en la escuela primaria, permitiendo a los estudiantes reforzar aún más su fluidez, alfabetización y comprensión académica en ambos idiomas.
