ELIGIBILITY

Students are eligible to participate in Cesar Chavez Middle School’s Co-Curricular Sports Program as long as they adhere to the following Academic, Attendance, and Behavioral expectations:

*Any students placed on RESTRICTION for Academic (2 or more “F’s”), Attendance (15 or more tardies), and/or Behavioral (ex. referral, suspension, etc.) reasons are ineligible to participate in any sports for the remainder of the season.

Academics:

  • Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher with no more than one failing or “F” grade during the season or the trimester prior to tryouts.
    • Students with one “F”, or less than a 2.0 grade point average may be put on academic probation  (Must have at least a 1.5 or higher grade point average with no more than one “F” grade – two “F” grades automatically makes the athlete ineligible). At the deficiency period the Coach, Athletic Director and/or Administrator will review the grades of all students who are on academic probation and will have the authority to reinstate or remove the student from the team at their discretion.  Only the Site Administrator or Athletic Director can grant probation.
    • An athlete may only be placed on academic probation once during the school year.  For example, if an athlete, who is on academic probation, gets reinstated because they meet the academic requirement (2.0 GPA & no more than one “F”) during the following grading period, they will not be granted another opportunity to be placed on academic probation.  Rather, they will not be eligible to participate in any sports the remainder of the year due to academic ineligibility.

Attendance:

  • No more than 9 tardies during the season.  Over 9 tardies will result in dismissal from the team.
  • Attend all practices and games regularly and on time.

Behavior:

  • Any student athlete who is found responsible for a minor violation of school rules and receives a detention or a referral as a consequence can be excluded from team activities and contest, as well as, exclusion from the team.
  • Any student athlete who is found responsible for a major violation of school rules and receives a suspension, alternative center suspension, or expulsion as a consequence can be immediately excluded from the team.
