Athletics

At Cesar Chavez Middle School we offer twelve Athletic programs open to all grade levels. Each of our sports teams, except Wrestling which is Independent, participate in the SACMAL (Southern Alameda County Middle Athletics League), which has 10 other participating schools from Union City, Castro Valley, Newark, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo. If you are eligible you can automatically join: Cross Country (boys and girls), Wrestling (boys and girls). If you are eligible you can tryout for the remaining teams, which make cuts: Girls Softball, Co-Ed Flag Football, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Girls Soccer, Boys Soccer, Golf, Girls and Boys Volleyball. Track and Field (boys and girls), will have a cap and may have to make cuts this season.

  • CCMS offers a balanced athletic program for students in grades 6-8.
  • There is NO after-school activity bus, so students need to arrange for transportation home after practices and games.

Eligibility

Students qualify to play on after school athletic teams by earning at least a 2.0 GPA with no more than one F during the trimester prior to the athletic season. Students will remain on the team by maintaining a 2.0 GPA and not being placed on restriction during the trimester/ season of play.

Students with one “F”, or less than a 2.00 grade point average may be put on an academic probationary status. At the deficiency period the Coach, Athletic Director and/or administrator will review the grades of all students on this probationary status and will have the authority to remove the student from the team at their discretion.

Any student suspended one time during the trimester of play or is placed on the restriction list may be ineligible to participate for the remainder of that season.

Students will practice Monday – Thursday from 3:00-4:30 with athletic contests during the week. Practice schedules will be determined by the athletic director and coach.

All athletes will honor the game, respect their opponents and game officials. We will teach student athletes to be trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring, and a good citizens. We ask that all spectators do the same.

Track and Field:

All meets will begin at 4:00 pm and end approximately at 6:30 pm. Each student is responsible for finding a ride to the meet. Parents may pick up their child from away meets after checking in with the coach.

All games will begin at 3:45 pm and end approximately at 5:15 pm. Each student is responsible for finding a ride to the game. Parents may pick up their child from away games after checking in with the coach.

All games will begin at 3:45 pm and end approximately at 6:30 pm. Each student is responsible for finding a ride to the game. Parents may pick up their child from away games after checking in with the coach.

Education Code 221.9 Notification

Pursuant to Education Code section 221.9, and beginning in the 2016-17 school year and every year thereafter, Cesar Chavez Middle School is required to publicly report information regarding its competitive athletics to include total enrollment at Cesar Chavez Middle School, classified by gender; the number of pupils enrolled at Cesar Chavez Middle School who participate in competitive athletics, classified by gender; and the number of boys' and girls' teams, classified by sport and by competition level.
